It’s not a kind of “folk metal”, it is METAL FOLK with traditional Slavonic melodic patterns, traditional handcrafted Folk instruments, and traditional choral Folk singing without any Gothic influences, and without any intentional use of some “metal standards”.
Lyrics are based on Slavonic mythology, topics of epics and folktales, and figurativeness characteristic of our primordial tradition. “We don’t follow that modern fashion for Paganism – we just hear the voice of our Blood, and love our culture, trying to be worthy of our Ancestors and their GODS”.
The album’s decorative design is created by Chur himself and it is a conceptual one. It represents several pictures painted in gouache in a traditional Ukrainian manner with a sort of modern naive art. Stylized design in imitation of naive popular prints with brightly-coloured pictures express feelings and ideas of songs perfectly. Someone will find such kind of art rather provocative, someone will be concerned with a lack of glamour, someone will find it just funny, and someone will interpret a form of this art message in the author’s way. Irrespective of any category you attribute yourself; our message has already attained the aim, if you fail to remain indifferent after acquaintance with CHUR’s album “Lykho”.
